Quantum Physics

I am fascinated by the work of theoretical physicists around the world. We are very lucky in Canada to have a great community of theoretical physicists at the Perimiter Institute just outside Toronto in Waterloo, Ontario. PI is committed to their outreach programs and has a number of public lectures in Waterloo, Ontario. The public lectures are very interesting and I would recommend them. I recently attended the Strings 05 conference in Toronto where I met one of my favorite authors, Lee Smolin, he is one of the founding members of PI institute

In June 2005 while travelling to visit my daughter in England I had the opportunity to visit with David Deutsch. His research in quantum physics and his papers on quantum computation has laid the foundations for that field, breaking new ground in the theory of computation as well as physics. His work triggered an explosion of research efforts worldwide. He is an authority on the theory of parallel universes. He is a member of the Quantum Computation at the Clarendon Laboratory, Oxford University <http://www.qubit.org/people/david/David.html> and <http://www.qubit.org/people/david/> in Oxford England . On his site there are a number of his lectures on quantum computation as well as other interesting information.

This picture was taken at the Banquet during the Strings 05 Conference in Toronto. The lady sitting next to me in the picture Amanda Peet, University of Toronto and one of the organizers of the conference. Sitting next to me is Steve Shenker (Stanford) and the man behind me is Nathan Sieberg (IAS, Princeton).

At the Conference I had the pleasure to spent time at the diner table with Michael Green and Michael Douglas.

I also had a chance to talk to Michael Green about the history of String Theory.

This picture was taken at the Strings 05 Conference in Toronto, the gentleman is Shing-Tung Yau, Department of Mathematics in Harvard University. In my opinion he is one of the most brilliant mathematicians in the world today.

Prof. Robbert Dijgraaf from the University of Amsterdam, a brilliant presenter and a very talented theoretical physicist.

Prof. Leonard Susskind spoke about his new book on "String Theory and the illusion of Intelligent Design". He is a very creative theoretical physicist, a true artist in his field, an original thinker involved in the following topics: models of internal structure of hadrons, gauge theories, quark confinement, symmetry breaking, instantons, quantum statistical mechanics, baryon production in the universe, model for fermion masses, gravity in lower dimensions and quantum cosmology.

Professor Susskind is one of the brightest minds in the world today and I have had the priviledge of being able to spend some time talking about some of the subjects that facinate me...

I was also very fortunate to have had a chance to met and talk to Joseph Polchinski from the department of Physics at UCSB
