We have moved a fair number of times in the past years and thankfully have always had decent success with our realtors. Never before though, have we had such exceptional service as we recently enjoyed with Cristina. I never thought it would and/or could happen-namely owning my own home in the city of Toronto. Perhaps that was my first mistake in not believing in not believing it could be a reality-somewhat like a self-fulfilling prophecy. On a weekly basis I would scour the real estate news and hit the various sites on the net only to find that my price range found me in the "boonies" or "swamp country". I had lived in the West end for the past twenty years and was reluctant to leave the area which provided me with easy access to transit, QEW, the 401, shops the park for my canine companions, and of course my daily jaunt to Timothy's in the Bloor West Village with my pooches in tow. Despite the ambiance of the area, close friends of mine encourages me to consider looking eastward. Having been raised in The Beaches, they couldn't appreciate my reluctance to pull uproots and relocate, as they wouldn't want to leave their area.
Regardless it all happened rather spontaneously when one of them mentioned a home off Kingston Road that was for sale. Immediately she called Cristina van Blommestein who made arrangements for us to take a look at the home.
It may seem strange, but when one walks into a home, you either get a good feeling or you don't. I had a good feeling about the home and left that evening wondering whether I should put an offer. First priority, of course was whether the mutts would like it. Well, let me see-no stairs to deal with as Moose has a bad back, a good sized lot, the property was fenced, and a pleasant enough neighborhood for our evening strolls.
It was a restless night of juggling figures and financial manipulations on where to extract money for my down payment, and what about those monthly mortgage payments? Interest rates were reasonable enough, although I thought they were supposed to be 3% above inflation, bringing the rate to 4.5%-was I dreaming?
Well, I decided to take the plunge, and as a first time home buyer, I was fortunate enough to have the expertise of Cristina to guide me along the way. After much negotiation on her part, she came back to congratulate me on being a new homeowner. I think I was in a state of shock initially, and was feeling rather numb for a couple of days afterwards. I imagine reality will hit home when the bills start rolling in. However, I feel confident that I am working towards something of my own, rather than throwing money away on rent.
